I am going to be speaking at the event and one of the things I intend to address is the *wrong* reasons for adopting a  social strategy (tokenism, &quot;becuase everyone else is doing it&quot;, and so on ) as well as the right ones (essentialy, adding value to an existing community and / or creating value through peering / collaboration / etc). 

Sorry you can&#039;t join us but I sure the presentations will be made available in some capacity.

There is this impression that for an organization or community to run a company, that they either need to hop on the major networks (twitter, facebook) or develop their own niche community. But I think it&#039;s much more about learning what unique experience and content your organization can bring to a community. Not every business should be involved in the social media space, but for those who are, they need to understand that it&#039;s not about them just joining in, it&#039;s about thoughtful execution. They need to have a purpose otherwise visitors will not want to experience them. That question is very interesting to me, so I look forward to reading about it on your blog.

How to integrate the social strategy in your corporate strategy and organisation is a question we frequently deal with when implementing communities for companies. Key is in expectations management, decision power in the right place for flexibility and enough competence in place: not everybody understands how communities work and not everybody can write good webcommunitycontent.
